//some old talk of a gem au where Mob is an opal and Reigen is a pyrite (fool’s gold) trying to pass himself off as an actual gold. His gem is under his tongue. (hence why drinking hot liquid aint such a good idea)
Together they make
TurquoiseRob. Rob is friend shaped and very anxious but has a strong protective streak.Rob’s design looking like kintsugi is something very much done on purpose.
This was built of the concept of gold gems being in charge of “waste disposal” in this au. Ergo, you gotta handle broken dead gems ? you go to a gold. They’re built to be clinical and unfeeling - to just do their jobs without panache and grind the remainder of gems into dust (or try and melt them down to fuel things, depending on how bad we’re talking here).
Whenever someone’s having trouble with any gem thing that “goes bump in the night” they go and see reigen (under the presumption that he’s a gold who’ll just subdue and take care of their problems)
gem shard fusions ? go see reigen
corrupted gems ? go see reigen
cracked gem on it’s last leg ? go see reigenAfter a young Mob has an incident with his gem and powers getting waaaaaay out of his control (involving a hurt ritsu and way too much ???% for mob’s liking), he sneaks out to to see Reigen and asks if something is wrong with his gem. Mob wonders if Reigen should… do something about that. cough.
Reigen reassures him that he’s alright and instead takes Mob under his wing, under the guise that he’s gonna watch as Mob’s gem “””develops””” over time. And that Mob being putting his powers to use at Reigen’s job is the perfect opportunity to keep them refreshed and in check.
Congrats I was leading up to Reigen bubbling gems just like the crystal gems do, ahaha. The idea is that part of Reigen’s problem (despite having no strength, ESP, powers, whathaveyou that makes gold’s jobs easier in this au) is that he sympathizes with them. He still thinks something may be done about them. Mob, himself is actually even more feeling towards the gems they bubble than even Reigen is.
After such a large chunk of time operating on his own, Reigen has just come to do a rinse and repeat of fight. subdue. tend wounds. bubble. He’s largely desensitized when Mob shows up on his doorstep. Mob, however, still tries to talk with them. Can even reach some common ground sometimes, or at least get them to relocate somewhere else and stop doing the thing that caused a problem in the first place.
Congrats Mob u get to feel like you belong somewhere for having these intense feelings and power bursts, all the while learning how to be a better person. And congrats Reig you get to start feeling things again and regain the hope that the “wasted gems” can get help too.
