incorrigible-groupie asked: Would you come to Paris one day ? :)

I would! I have visited several times on school trips and the like, but the closest I’ll come to it any time soon is when I’m visiting Annecy for the animation festival this year- if anyone is in the region at the time and wants to say hi to me gimme a head’s up I’ll totally try and make space to meet up with you (also fair warning I am horrible at French I forgot everything I ever learned in school please forgive me amen)

I was bored.

I’ve had various people asking for a character sheet of M.O.D. (my fanbot self) but I’ve been all aaaa about doing it because it was basically drawing myself and that’s just kind of weird and I’m boring so I’ve thought about her a lot more and she’s...

I’ve had various people asking for a character sheet of M.O.D. (my fanbot self) but I’ve been all aaaa about doing it because it was basically drawing myself and that’s just kind of weird and I’m boring so I’ve thought about her a lot more and she’s more herself than me now SO THAT MAKES DRAWING HER OKAY. This is still horribly rough but it’s twenty past ten and I’ve been drawing all daaaaaaay ;A;

M.O.D. was informed that she was created in 1928 and that her name stands for Mechanical Oration and Design, because she was designed for illustration, entertainment and recitals etc. She doesn’t quite understand why but sometimes it doesn’t feel like that is why she was made, and she seems to have a few… unnecessary functions in that regard, but she wasn’t told otherwise, and as she can no longer talk it’s not like she can ask.

She’s closely related to silent movies, hence the whole black and white motif, as well as being mute and having the film-strip suspender things :) She’s also a little bit, er, slapstick in how she behaves aka clumsy as a walrus in a bucket of butter.

Now if I can only summon the courage to introduce her to the SPG forums…

Well, first of all, I’m not; I just have fun doing it, and second of all it’s going to be the same answer no matter who you ask- I drew them a lot. I draw them a lot. I will continue to draw them a lot and I will never be as good at drawing them as I want to be, but I will be as good at drawing them as I can be, and that’s really all anyone can ask of you, so that’s fine :D

As for tips, apart from drawing them a lot and drawing as many from life as you can, try looking at the shapes of and in people’s faces. You can learn a lot from looking at skulls and the muscles of the face, but try picking out the repeating motifs in people’s faces- are there circles? Steps? Angles? Curves? What can you make that say about the face, about the person? Can you use that in a way that misleads the audience? Is your villain made of triangles and spikes, or are they a cutesy baby-faced joker?

Just have fun with it and draw as much as you can, whenever you can, of whatever you can- or, even better, what you can’t.

Augh I can’t get a photo of it but my fingers are cracking from (failing at) playing guitar

does this mean I get to be a cool kid now?

Can I join the club yet?

No?

O-okay…

Someone requested a flipped colour version so here you go :)

I would say I still pretty much suck at anatomy, but initially I learned by a) looking at other humans beings (generally advisable) and b) the medical journals in my house. My parents are doctors so I learned to draw hands and feet by looking at the bones. Once you know how something looks on the inside it’s infinitely easier to understand why it looks the way it does on the outside.

Of course, later on I took figure drawing classes and started to really look at how the proportions and muscles work. Figure drawing with a good, patient teacher is the absolute best way to learn how to draw humans.

I made a stream about other generalized anatomy tips over here but again, I am not an expert by any stretch. Best way to get a hang of it is practice practice practice. Not what you want to hear I’m sure, but it’s all you’ll ever hear when you ask, so better to put the hours in practicing than asking.
