Everyone else learns to bail out and quit because you just can't win against Gladstone, but not Donald- he tries every damn time, and sometimes? He wins! Maybe not conventionally, but he gets the better of Gladstone, and for all he never says it? That rivalry makes Gladstone happier than anything, because this one unlucky duck goes against the grain and makes his life interesting.
I think that’s a great thought, and also consider: Gladstone sometimes takes interest in an activity and tries it out just to see what the hype is about, or because Donald is interested in that thing, like cooking or fishing. Which leads to a scene like this gem:

has to be said I could also easily see Scrooge as the Hanged Man what with The Life and Times, also the heckin Money Bin = The Tower and Old Number One = The Ace of Pentacles and I’m prolly missing a bunch of really obvious ones but I’m tired so that’ll hafta do
