Reasons why Charlie Chaplin is a comic-timing genius: this scene.

“Fifteen cents, please.”
“I am very cold”
“The parchment is very hairy.”

Our latest issue “Means of Communication” is now online. Take a break from the scriptorium to check it out!
This is awesome.
There is little doubt in my mind that had I been born 500 years sooner, my lot in life would have been that of a scribe—and a near-sighted, left-handed one at that. The note, “Oh, my hand,” particularly resonates with me.
I love these- I remember seeing the demand for alcohol during my Illuminated Manuscript class, there’s a cute little illustration of the illuminator/scribe to go along with it.
My personal favorite is “Thank God, it will soon be dark.”
I want to hug all these scribes.
