Anonymous asked: Pardon my asking, but how old are Goosetave and Daphne when they meet in The White Balloon? Asking for reasons
good question! I think they are about 16/17- young enough for Goostave to be deeply under the thumb of his parents but on the verge of going to college and really starting to be able to break away and be independent. I imagine they met, then went their separate ways, but kept touch as pen pals for all the time they were apart and eventually met back up in their twenties.
cuttletoon asked: I was thinking about how odd it is that Magica De Spell doesn't use an alias. Since magic users normally have them to protect against curses... And then a remembered her name is /Magica De Spell/. Which, in retrospect, is like the most obvious witch alias ever.
GOOD REMINDER because I had a conversation with a pal ages ago about this exact thing, and we basically came up with a theory that it became tradition for people born into traditionally magical families to give their child a ‘true’ name first, then bring them up using another, so basically they never know their ‘real’ curse-able name? something like that. A bit like the Beagle Boys all going by their prison numbers instead of whatever they were born as :’D
It’s also interesting to me that the only other relatives of Magica’s we know about are also magical, but Magica is a sorceress (someone who has had to study to be able to use magic rather than inheriting an ability to). So from that we can guess that maybe she was an exception in her family. That, maybe, she was born without genetic magic into a magical family, but decided to knuckle down and become the best damn witch the world’s ever seen in spite of it. That’s all theory though, I don’t know anything about her parents from the canon I’ve read (I don’t even know if there is anything about them) and I know even with my extensive reading that there’s a lot of duck comics that I haven’t read yet!
When someone isn’t feeling like hanging out or sad, I feel like Sero would be the one to go out to a store, buy their favorite, magazine, comfort garbage food, a fresh note book and pens, etc… and bring it to their door. He’d slip a note underneath the door saying “count to 20 I’ll be gone by then, I just thought you’d might like these. Hope you feel better soon.”
Anonymous asked: so I know all duck timeline stuff is chaos bc there are a thousand artists and stories with different ideas but... what do you think Gladstone's childhood timeline is? like, according to this adorable-but-sad moving in with Matilda/Ludwig idea and all? give us the Dark Mod Headcanon Lore
gjadhgk I kinda dug a hole for myself there didn’t I uh well keeping in mind I am making this up literally as I’m about to hit the hay and am not versed in every comic to have ever been made the rough timeline I have is:
Anonymous asked: so I know duck ages are like, impossible to pin down bc cartoon ducks are immortal and never age etc. but I'm interested in what your headcanon ages for them are? like I noticed you draw Fethry quite a few years younger than Don and Gladdy when you draw them as kids, and I think you said you think Magica is definitely older than Gladstone?
man is it ever impossible, but okay I’ll try to summarize my headcanons!
Just based on when the characters were invented, I think Fethry is the youngest cousin, Gladstone is the middle cousin, and Donald/Della were the oldest. For some reason I think Gus is about the same age as Gladstone? But less sure on that. Because Gladstone and Donald are often shown in school as being in the same year/about the same size as kids I think they’re pretty similar in age, so like a year apart tops. Fethry I see as being one-to-three years younger than Gladstone because he’s so zany (and is definitely a more recently invented character). I’m not sure about Whitewater but just because he’s so scrappy and energetic perhaps he’s between Fethry and Donald/Gladstone’s age?
In terms of general age brackets I’d say Donald and Gladstone are in their mid/early thirties (considering Huey, Dewey and Louie’s age is probably about 10 in the comics, and I imagine Della having them when she was in her early twenties), and so Fethry might be in his late twenties or just hitting 30. Magica I always saw as being in her mid/early 40′s, Scrooge in his 80′s and Grandma is anyone’s guess man that girl is indestructible.
seagull-laugh-girl asked: Sorry to bother you again, I was looking at bedding and ended up reading the difference between Duck and Geese Feathers and aparently Geese Feathers are warmer, and then I remembered your Magicstone Comic where Gladstone is moaning about the heat of her house on a Volcano and Magica doesn't seam botherd and I just kind of wondered, is that why?
Anonymous asked: I've been trying to look him the info with no clear answer but I thought you may know. Is Gladstone’s mom still canonly alive? Random info I've read has his father is probably gone but it's open ended on what happened to Daphne Duck.
My reasoning for this is simply that the Duck Family very often has big reunions and even obscure relatives are included in things like Christmas specials- but we never see Daphne or Goosetave. They aren’t even mentioned in conversation, and this is strange considering how Daphne was so closely related to Donald- in fact, the only stories I know that really feature Daphne in any way are The Sign of the Triple Distelfink and part of the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck- both showing events in the comparatively distant past.
Anyway, I think when you’re presented with the fact that much older characters like Grandma and Scrooge are still kicking, it leads me to think that something happened to them to remove them from the picture so absolutely (and Barks is pretty much the Go To for duck canon even if the family tree shifted about).
TPoH music time! A very short piece this time, but goodness yes, matches one particular part or the story (which we won’t reach for a few more decades) uncannily well. In my mind, anyway.
oops, forgot I was meant to post some music yesterday- but anyway this is a track I often listen to while I’m drawing TPoH and I can pretty easily associate it with one particular part of the story (which we won’t reach for the better part of a century but hey ho)
