Anonymous asked: I'm thinking about dying my hair blue and I'm wondering if you have any tips for dying/bleaching, since I've never have done something like this before.
okay so bleaching/lightening hair before you dye is always recommended for good colour but there aren’t many tricks to that (apart from not leaving it on for longer than the instructions say I mean it guys don’t do that), but when it comes to dying I’m just going to tell you the one miracle secret my favourite punk/animator/Swedish hair-dying pro told me and really anyone wanting to dye their hair (particularly if it’s with a strong colour) needs to know about this;

vaseline petrolum jelly
it is. the shit.
and you don’t need to go out and buy a vat of the stuff one these little dinky-do’s will manage the job fine for several turns and it’s stupidly simple to use;
before you start dying your hair smear a bit around your hairline, over your ears and round the back of your neck, making sure you don’t get any on your hair, then go about dumping whatever coloured goo you’re using on your lovely locks as usual- don’t go crazy you don’t need an inch-thick layer and it’s greasy as heck so be sure to wash your hands thoroughly and put on those rubber gloves before doing any dying, just use enough so it feels like the skin is properly covered with it, and don’t worry it’ll come off when you wash the dye off if you use enough soap
why? because this stuff will save you from staining your skin and spending the ensuing weeks wondering whether green ears could be the next in-thing this season if you just marketed it right, it’s super easy to do and absolutely worth the effort if you want a neat and tidy colour line that doesn’t look like you tried to dye your hair by sticking your head in a bucket of ink
so yeah, that’s my one tip for being the big rainbow baby you wanna be :|b go have fun kids
