Happy not-quite-crimble present! Made it in time, phew! But I will be taking a break so I can spend more time with my family- I’ll be back to posting the comic on the 7th of January! So thanks for your patience until then, and I hope you all have a very lovely holiday season.

New page available here on the TPoH website! Also available to read here on Smackjeeves!

If you like the idea of having more than one page of TPoH a week or just want to help keep a soul and body together, please consider supporting me on Patreon, even just one or two dollars a month helps!

There are also always lots of my doodles to buy on nice stuff on my RedBubbleaccount or in my Society6 merch box :D

Anonymous asked: hey uncle mod, this might be dumb or just, idk it's so small and I feel stupid even for being hurt by it, but someone recently just made fun of the fact that I like something and draw and write about it a lot- but it's a safe space for me, creating and thinking about that subject. It's just fanart and theories and such, but the world is so bad rn and when I see you being a pro artist and still geeking out making fanart it it's so energizing and comforting- do you ever have to deal with cynicism?

anon, I’m so sorry; it really does hurt when people do that, and half the time these people have no idea how to create things, which is why it’s all they can do to attack people who do in an attempt to make themselves, in some way, significant. It sucks! And it will hurt, for a while, but don’t let them destroy your love for your subject. Take time to talk with friends about it, cry if you need to. You will recover and each time it gets a little easier to do so; especially when you have folks like Alex Hirsch who can spout little pieces of wisdom like this-

It’s great having this kind of attitude put into words to follow, and he put it better here than I ever could. Don’t let them get to you friendo- the reason I can and still am drawing as much and as often as I do is because the satisfaction in making art For Fun and the happiness it’s bringing people compels me to create far and above any other incentive. The world’s going to hell; as long as you’re not hurting anyone take joy in what you love and stuff the rest. Create good stuff: destroy your enemies (p.s. the best part? The easiest way to stop people like that from getting to you AND annoy the hell out of them is to make more stuff! If you have the ability to block them do that too; keep doing what you do and ignore them entirely = The Ultimate Comeback)

Sorry, but I’ll see you with a fresh new page in a fresh new year on the first of January, hope you all have very happy holidays, thank you so much for reading! <3

If you’re enjoying this comic or any of my other stories, please consider supporting me on Patreon, and you could have one of your own OC’s visit the market too! If that’s not your scene perhaps have a look if there’s anything that tickles your fancy on my RedBubble account or in my Society6 merch box :D

Anonymous asked: how do you manage to write so well for characters? I mean, like, other fandom things as well as your OCs? I remember your Jervis Tetch and Neil Richards stuff and these new Layton and Wright things feel so spot on as well, like they're canon or something

well firstly that’s super kind of you (and hey wow you must have been following me for a while huh :’D ahaha), but I don’t know really, I just don’t try to make characters do anything they wouldn’t naturally- if it feels wrong I don’t do it.

I’ve found a good practice for creative writing is to put a character in a situation and just let them respond to it; it leads to the most plausible and often wildly interesting stories, because you aren’t playing puppet master, you’re just letting the circumstances form as they would do in real life and observing. It’s a good, fun exercise, and leads to the understanding that if you want a character to respond to a particular situation in a particular way, there has to be a logical reason for it. If it’s important for a character to behave in an atypical fashion at a certain part of the story you have to build the story backwards to find the cause of that behaviour at that point in time. You can’t just ‘make’ a character perform an action, the character will perform the action for a reason, as a writer it is your job (and responsibility) to find that reason.

Basically I think it just comes down to learning to respect the character and the fact that they are their own person, and not just a chess piece to be forcibly moved around a set series of events for your own convenience.

couldn’t draw much outside of work things today (busy busy fixing computer and busy) but my buddy Sebastian requested Mesi on a Victorian bike and Arthur on a tricycle and like I could say no to that

Anonymous asked: hey, you said that RGB is pansexual before right? so... does that mean it's okay to ship him with Magnus (because that might already be happening)

That’s right, it’s up to all of you to draw your spine tieless (or somewhere around that nature)  and slap on an awesome uplifting finale monologue as he hands it over to box!spine or fight among each other in a very ridiculous fashion while doing so like how we started, but remember: what happens now could effect the ending! there’s only one rule; have fun!
