She is partially blind but on the verge of total blindness and has been for some years.
It was caused by AMD (age-related macular degeneration) and started in her mid fifties; since it has been untreated the majority of her sight has been lost. While she cannot see things with any clarity she can still detect levels of light and maintains some limited visual perception in her peripheral vision, and she can detect movement although details are completely lost. The glasses are more of a habit than a necessity at this point.

to be fair I’ve never confirmed if Arthur can talk but in the AU Arthur is genuinely mute :|b
both would be Gryffindors but very different kinds of Gryffindors, also in the HP world Mesi would probably end up being a professional Quidditch player and Arthur would make a pretty great Care of Magical Creatures teacher or headmaster I’m just saying

it’s black! it’s made of satin and the lighting from his screen is very slightly amber so that causes it to look slightly brown sometimes, and as shades of black go it’s a warm tone rather than a cold (blue) tone :|b

I wish it was the latter I use the default fuzzy brush with scatter and wet edges applied at a low-ish opacity
and then it’s just lots of layering and varying the amount of spacing/size to make it look more in/out of focus in places, I have come to refer to this as the ‘splutch brush’ in my head :D
I usually do a harder contour sketch first so I know what my key values are going to be, but through trial and error I’ve found that just going pellmell at mixing up the colours like I would with chalk pastels results in the best effect so it all ends up being on the same layer in the end

you know what anon I am actually super happy you asked because that was a completely spur-of-the-moment thing I did during the animation stage- it wasn’t planned! I didn’t board it! I just had ‘Mesi inspects Arthur’s face’ as the motive and it just kind of happened when I was doing it! I mean heck there are reasons; you can take it as a gag with the expression ‘looking a gift horse in the mouth’, and being a space explorer one of the first things to find out about a new species is whether or not it’s carnivorous so she was probably mostly checking for canines.
but yeah this is what I mean about my characters being the boss of themselves, I just sort of discover them and have to go along with what they’re going to do! On a sidenote if I can get it into the feature I figured it’d be cute if she did that on first meeting him, and then later (when he’s smacked into a wall or something) she does it again but this time it’s to check if they’re all still there .u.
maybe she’s a dentist in another life or has a teeth fetish or something idk I’m not here for explanations \o/

not at all! the matter of fact is I never planned or thought about where it would go or if anyone would read it. I never had any aims to profit from it or gain a following- I just got hijacked by a story that I knew I had to make happen. I honestly don’t know how all these people found it but I’m very glad if they’re enjoying it, I just hope I can stay in good health and complete it!
