Anonymous asked: Hi shy anon here, I'm currently in year 10 of school and taking Media, Graphics and History for GCSE (I know History is unrelated XD) and my parents say I should stay on for A Level. Do you know of any universities that specialise in animation?

Okay well firstly history is never unrelated keep reading that stuff always, taking A levels is a good idea so yup yup do that if you want, but for animation univeristies within the UK I’m afraid I’m not an expert; I had a pretty lousy experience at the place I studied in the UK, not going to lie, but maybe I was just unlucky. There are probably good places here but you’ll have to ask around, and don’t just trust information on university websites- find people who studied at them to get a better perspective. There are a lot of super great places to study in Europe, however, and obviously I recommend places like VFS after you’ve got some more experience, but it all depends on how willing you are to travel and live away from home- it can be rough, and very expensive!

You have a long time to decide, so don’t rush into it or think you must set yourself a path right now and follow it absolutely. People change! You are allowed to change your mind! What I would super recommend is that before you decide on studying animation and/or where, take a foundation art year. I did one at Manchester Metropolitan University and it was very helpful in letting me decide where I wanted my specialties to lie, and dabbling in a lot of different types of art gives you a better, broader perspective on what you can do with animation and your life in general.

Having said that, you still have another year to go before completing GCSE’s and then it’s up to you as to whether you spend another two years doing A levels. Don’t feel pressured! Teachers can make it sound like you’re meant to have the plan for the rest of your life all sorted out before you’re seventeen or else you’ll fail at everything but hell, it isn’t true! Please don’t trap yourself into that system. Give yourself enough time to decide, be patient with your development of interests, and learn as many different things as you can- remember that nothing is irrelevant to art! Certainly not history!

Anonymous asked: where is CLIP set?

probably not where you think it is!

Anonymous asked: Will magnus appear and will light entertainment be together again

yes and no- 0chromat very obligingly agreed to let me cameo Magnus in the comic, so that will happen (although don’t get too hyped up- it will be a passing affair, although I am very very happy about it!), but that ship has sailed, or at least is sailing outside of the timeframe of this particular part of RGB’s story, so… I’m afraid you’ll have to look between the margins for that sort of thing

Anonymous asked: before you go to bed what do you think RGB sounds like??

Patrick McGoohan crossed with Colin Firth (I mean can’t you just imagine him doing the famous expletive run from the King’s Speech?)

Anonymous asked: idk Dial reads as being a lot more 'southern' than Robbie to me :/

true! but he is purposefully exaggerating his accent- just as RGB does with his sometimes: they are both stereotypes and act up to maintain and enforce that impression (RGB would hate the fact that they have something in common but it’s not the only thing), so for me Robin works great because he could put on a cartoonish version of any accent he chose, including a southern well hey howdy hey there buddy!

Anonymous asked: Hello! Could I ask what Dial's voice sounds like? :)

honestly (as with RGB) he can sound however you imagine him to sound but for me he has always sounded like Robin Williams

GOOOOOD MORNIN’ VIETNAAAAM

Anonymous asked: I want to learn how to write scary things, have you got any advice?

well I’m not an expert by any stretch (very happy to be asked though!), and while mostly I recommend watching and reading things that you find scary and taking them apart to understand why you find them scary I wrote a tiny thing about using absurdity as a method of building fear way back here

Anonymous asked: do you have trouble coming up with ideas if you are sad?

actually, no! this is not to say that I don’t ever have trouble coming up with ideas- I certainly do have dry patches, or the dreaded writer’s block on occasion (although I have found the best solution to that is to try and power through it anyway) however my emotional state doesn’t particularly seem to affect how creative my brain is going to be. In fact, some of my best ideas have been the result of my being very sad, or ill, or something other than my usual cheery self. This does not mean that I believe that being sad, ill, or other than your cheery self is the best way to come up with ideas, it can just be a great incentive to create stories, which are required to solve the fact that you and other people are often sad, ill, or other than their cheery selves.

Anonymous asked: Mod, what is your opinion on publishing in multiple sites (Like, Tapastic, ComicFury, SmackJeeves, WebToon, Facebook, tumblr, etc) since you only publish on smackjeeves and your site now?

I’ve found it’s a good idea in general; if one of the sites goes down, then the odds are the other one will still be working, so people can still access your story! The reason I dropped ComicFury was simply that I didn’t think I needed to upload the comic to three sites, and seeing as comments are potentially a breeding ground for drama and spam (I confess I don’t usually read the comments I just step in if someone reports that kind of thing) keeping those contained to one website was also a benefit

but yeah man you choose how many places your work goes, the choice is up to you!

Anonymous asked: how does the printed TPOH work? does each "issue" have like two chapters? i was just curious how it was set up since I thought it was exclusively a webcomic

there are six chapters in this first copy, and I’m old fashioned so I think publishing them with every half dozen chapters should work well- this first batch is fairly small and is more or less a test run. I’m sending a few copies out to publishers this next week to see if I can get someone else interested in doing that side of it, and some heavy stuff just went down in my personal life so yes, sorry, but I have to ask you to be patient once again. At least I can say I do have some copies to sell now, but I’ll probably sell them in batches of a hundred so I don’t get completely flooded with postal duties! I never intended to publish this thing when I started so this is all very new and scary for me :’D
