Anonymous asked: thank you for making Hero an actual damn hero like my god this kid smart as hell

I grew up being super frustrated at kid/young adult protagonists in stories making stupid decisions that no damn kid I knew was dumb enough to make, so I wanted Hero to be a real kid with actual common sense and a bit of an inventor’s streak. Also most of the children I meet are smarter than I am so that’s how I write her :Tb

Anonymous asked: ooh Gladstone is a Leo? really? that's cool he's the same as me! :D

yep! going by when he first appeared in the comics (which I take as a standard character birthday/creation day tradition now) here’s a really great list of lots of other Disney characters if you’re interested :D

Anonymous asked: Hey, this might be a weird question but I was wondering how you’d feel about someone making a rp blog for one of your characters? If not that’s totally cool! I just wanted to check before I made one bc I’d rather know for sure whether you’d be okay with it

sure dude go have fun!

Anonymous asked: I know I should be happy because your comics are amazing but every time you make these beautiful things I just get irrationally angry that nobody from disney is acknowledging their existence or paying you to make them! MAKE THESE CANON!! >:C

Oh no! don’t be angery anon, I appreciate the sentiment- but look at it this way! because these comics are purely fanart I don’t have any limitations on the kind of material I can make, I don’t have horrible deadlines that my wonky body can’t handle, and I don’t end up resenting the characters because I’m forced to churn out stuff- I just make things that I want to make! really I’m in the best situation I could be, all things considered.

Anonymous asked: IS THAT THE FREAKIN CAT NO BANANA EXPRESSION

i’M GLAD YOU COULD RECOGNISE IT

Anonymous asked: do you have any music you associate with TPoH? :O

sure! but it’s kind of hotchpotch and adds to itself when I find a new track. I actually had a tag I used to post things for it for a while but ahaha kinda fell off that habit huh. If you want an immediate vibe setter for the comic though you can’t go wrong with this-

and also honorable mention to this ost (especially for the present arc!);

Anonymous asked: hey uncle mod, do you have any advice for someone with an unrelated bachelor's degree on getting a job in visual development? is it feasible to get by on skill and a good portfolio alone or do i need an illustration or animation degree?

I can’t say specifics for studios (I’m sure some places have different systems for accepting applicants at least) but on the whole I’ve had directors and boarders and comics folks alike say that the skill, portfolio and personality of the artist outweighs things like grades and degrees- if what they see is what they need they’ll take you on. That said, it certainly helps to have some training! And in terms of getting your CV looked at then yeah having some fancy letters after your name does help a lot.

Anonymous asked: Hey mod! On the most recent tpoh page there are some spare dots and dashes around mysterious coworker's words- any chance that's morse code? We're not having a lot of luck decoding it and wondering if we're chasing shadows or just not seeing the obvious

man you guys are so cool and give me way too much credit SORRY IT AIN’T ANYTHING it’s just how the image came out :’D

Anonymous asked: You're so good at portraying close, intimate but still obviously platonic friendships. Any advice on how to do that? Thanks!

aw shucks! I guess I’ve not thought about it too deeply- because it’s how I behave with people I know well! just allow characters to be physically comfortable around each other or not even acknowledge the fact that someone is draped across them, like ‘oh this happens all the time’, or rather than walking around someone just moving someone out of the way by swinging them around gently or lifting an arm to walk under it, character A is talking to character B about something completely unrelated to the fact that they exchange a hug at the same time, not even changing their facial expressions to reflect the fact- or, character A lifting up character B so they can get something on a high shelf that they were struggling to reach, which is much cuter and funnier than character A getting the object down for them. it’s all just grounded in the sort of goofy stuff you see and experience with close friends? I got a lot of that when I lived in a student house when going to university; it housed 4 people but we basically had 8-10 people who were there constantly and the front room was often a hotpotch of tired nerds in their early twenties attempting to sit or lie on any available surface which basically included the other tired nerds in the room. they were good nerds. it was nice. we played a lot of video games.

TL:DR I guess draw things that feel cosy and make it clear that the crossing of personal boundaries is 100% not a big deal to either party

Anonymous asked: that outfit is SO GOOD also, did the ribbons on the sleeves stay the same colour? the ones Hero gave him in the market :O

THANKS I LIKE IT TOO and yes! they’re a surface addition and aren’t fully integrated into his design, so they remain the same colour no matter what his other clothes do!
