no worries! If you’re unfamiliar with the characters from the Donald Duck comics, it’s a ship between Magica De Spell (a sorceress who famously wants to steal Scrooge McDuck’s number one dime), and Gladstone Gander (a supernaturally lucky goose… who is Scrooge’s nephew!). I don’t know about others but I first hit on the ship when I read A Gal for Gladstone when it came out, and I’ve basically loved their dynamic and the possibilities of that relationship ever since! What I didn’t know is it seems to have happened to a lot of other people at the same time, we’ve just… kind of come out of the woodwork on tumblr oddly recently?! It’s wild. Enjoy the tag there’s some lovely fanart in there my dude.
The two characters are both magically inclined but in very different ways, sit on opposite sides of the luck scale and opposite sides of a significant debate in the ownership of that very special coin. They also have a great deal in common, however, especially in terms of hidden soft sides, moral ambiguity and enduring hardships that few others know of (or could even understand). I find they balance each other out in an endlessly interesting, funny, and often extremely healthy way. There’s obviously also infinite room for angst, and the whole thing is such a dynamic ball of story potential that making comics featuring them has become something of a therapeutic side project for me. The first follow-up comic I did to A Gal for Gladstone was The Sorceress’s Apprentice, but there’s been no stopping me since :’D

I AM VERY EXCITED and yeah I kinda faded on Who when Moffat’s writing got so… yeah. I did backtrack and watch some of the last season bc there were some really good episodes in there, I basically had to watch the opening credits and if it was written by someone else I kept watching :’D it worked! I’m very interested to see how she takes on the role and what topics they explore.

What an awesome problem to have caused ahaha, but I promise the reason my version of the characters is that way is because I’m not trying to write them, I’m just trying to listen to them. I read these comics A LOT growing up, and even now! as many of them as possible! True, there’s always a bit of wriggle room between writers but on the whole the reason the duck comics and their characters have survived so long and been so beloved is because… they? Are real? These guys have been kicking around existing as fully fleshed characters for like 80 years now and they definitely have voices of their own. I’m always gratified to hear that people find my version pretty true to the original, so I think if you have a go at the real comics you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

not consciously- but then, Gladstone was basically an unconscious influence himself! it was only when I’d really started the comic that I realised they had so much in common. If Hero has any influence from the ducks it’s probably the original flavour HDL trio, being the mix of upstart, genius and cute affectionate lil’ darlings that they are. On the whole though what went into the melting pot for Hero was very different than for RGB- there’s Moomin, Snufkin, and Snowy and Tintin in her to name but a few. A little bit of Winnie the Pooh, Toon Link and Cheburashka, too.

I am! it’s the blog I use for rebloggiting TPoH fanart/cosplay/shitPOhsts and other general tomfoolery, just keeps my main blog a little easier to navigate and gives them a place of their own! To clarify; I answer questions about ducks and duck comics, but not the show Ducktales. I used to, but not any more? It’s complicated. I don’t really want to spread negativity by explaining the personal reasons I have but I just can’t enjoy the show even though I tried really hard to. It doesn’t mean I’m not okay with other people liking it! And that’s partly why I don’t want to talk about it. I’d hate to make anyone feel bad about enjoying a cartoon! like wow. Not gonna do that. You do you folks I want you to live your lives how u wanna live em!
Anyway basically having to deal with questions about it or being asked to comment on it just gives me horrible anxiety and I really appreciate folks that have picked up on the hints. That said I still get people asking about the show- please understand that that still gives me anxiety even if I don’t respond to them any more, so I know it’s frustrating but I’d really be grateful if folks would respect this one request.
