Anonymous asked: bit of a random question, but have you taken a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality test? if so, what kind are you?

I have! I am ENFP, although I have to confess it’s always a bit weird seeing myself as an ‘Extrovert’ when I actually really enjoy solitude and find crowd activity drains my energy levels; while I socialize well and am a bounce-around one person party I always need a day or six to recover! I think this is why I worked so well as a storyboarder overseas- I loved working in the office but I actually found I was much more energetic and productive working from home.

Anonymous asked: How do you feel about people drawing nsfw of your characters? How about roleplaying? Those are both things my friends and I are interested in doing, but i didn't feel right about it without asking you first.

oh roleplaying is super okay you go have fun, but as for nsfw…. ehhhhhhh, I’m about as comfortable as any creator of a character would feel about it, which isn’t much, to be honest- but as long as it’s not hurting anyone I guess??

idk man it’s never really been my cup of tea, but on the other hand I know most people do that sort of thing in good fun, and in the grand scheme of things there’s little I can do about stopping you- just remember that if you do please clearly label it so people who don’t want any would be able to avoid it (I’m aware I do have some younger readers too so let’s keep the TPoH tag clean please), and for the sake of all that is good in the world please don’t involve characters like Assok or Hero otherwise I will be forced to hunt you down and flay you to death with your own intestines I’m just saying

Anonymous asked: okay so I am like a bazillion years behind everyone else because Australia but I just finished playing PL vs AA and I feel like I have the same thing you did with AA5 in terms of loving the game but really not digging the ending :/ no chance you'd be willing to do one of your life-saving alternate ending comics?

usually I would add this to the ‘I don’t do requests sorry bro’ pile but the hilarious thing is I really did consider doing one for the same reason- it felt like kind of a bum note after all the magic time hijinks, y’know? anyway, sadly I lost my buzz to do one because it was right about that time I got the first case of super bad tendonitis last year but maybe I will replay it one day and have a shot at it… when my hands are less shitty. and I have less to do.

yeah.

Anonymous asked: So... I have something to ask. I'm aspiring to be an artist once I can attend art college, but for now I'm still quite young. Lately, I've been doubtful of my current style, as I was told just the other day that "all (my) characters look the same". I'd like for my style to be a tad more realistic, but... I can't seem to make anything work that way. I know I have time to keep learning and developing, but I'm impatient; I can't help it. What should I do?

Ooooh do I feel you there- unfortunately you’re going to be like that, forever. Yup. Artists, no matter what their age, nearly always feel this way- I certainly do! Right now, as it happens. The funny thing is the when you feel that you’re really in a rut and not improving or going too slowly etc. that is usually the time that you are learning the most. It doesn’t show because your brain is always 5 years ahead of your hands, but the connections are being made, and that sense of self analysis (barring being too overly self critical) is vital to improving.

I’m sorry I can’t help get rid of that impatient feeling, but you really do just have to be… patient! And not with ‘waiting until you’re better at stuff’ I mean just, patient. With yourself and with others and with the world and how you fit into it, or not! Patience is not about doing nothing, it is active; it is about diligence and coping with frustration by observing. So, observe what is frustrating you: if you have a real weakness, like say hands or feet or backgrounds, make it your focus for a while. Just do studies of real hands and feet, or colour studies of nice landscapes, or try imitating a style that you like and then apply it to something new. Give yourself little challenges in the form of games and art lessons, and don’t feel obliged to post the results; the majority of the ‘learning’ work I do is never seen by other people because in itself it is not especially valuable, it is the process of doing it that is.

If you want to push your style in particular, studying the real thing super helps with that. Don’t worry about it looking ‘realistic’, just drive yourself to understand what you are looking at. Be intimate- try to know what you are drawing inside out, because when you are at that level of understanding then you can start pulling it to pieces and exaggerating different parts of it in an effective way (which is basically how you stylize). Try breaking yourself out of your comfort zone, too; try using different media than usual, or even draw with your none dominant hand for a while! Allow yourself to play and get things wrong, because both of those things are how you learn to get better.

okay but super pro tip for people who are new to using tumblr or unused to the inbox system; if you send me a message on anon saying ‘please reply to this privately’ please do not be sad that I have not replied! it’s because you cannot reply to anon messages privately! you can only do that to messages where you can see who sent the message

thank you and please send the message again if you want I promise I will not be cross okay take care xxx

Anonymous asked: hi ! i'm going to dye my hair with manic panic dye, just like in your tutorial and i have a question : do i just directly put the dye on my hair or do i have to mix it with something ? thank you for your answer ! (ps my native language is not english so sorry for my bad grammar)

nah bro you’re fine without mixing it with anything slam dunk that goo all over your hair (just don’t forget the vaseline to edge your skin or else you might get stained and that ain’t fun) :Tb enjoy being colourful!

Anonymous asked: so I remember you said you prefered the older anime of HxH and I'd only watched the recent one so I went back and watched and my god??? I understand the characters so much better and Leorio is so much more likeable like especially in the exam and Gon is more relatable too I am kinda mad but thanks for making me go back and watch the older version it changed things for the better :'D

YEAH RIGHT? Glad you are happier now and I mean it’s not to say I don’t like the 2011 remake because I do love the new version a lot too; the animation is super slick and I heard it’s more accurate to the manga (still need to read that), but I just felt the pacing and character psychology/development was better in the 1999 version and when it comes to the crunch I care more about those things than shiny animation :Tb

Anonymous asked: Hey modmad. Your one of my favorite artists and can I say TPoH is one of the best comics out there. I myself am getting into digital art and have a few questions. What tablet do you use if you use one and what application do you use to draw? You don't have to answer these if you don't want =) but srs your art and comics are the best! Thank you for your time, have a wonderful day.

hello there friend! well, first and foremost I have to emphasize that the tools don’t make the art, the artist makes the art; if you’re comfortable with what you have you can make stuff just as good as the next person (provided it doesn’t break while you’re using it). I started off with a wacom bamboo, then an intuos 4 and then finally I wound up with the massive cintiq I have today- but that was funded by my job when they signed me up as a storyboarder and good golly it’s a monster. Honestly the intuos served me well for a long time and I still have it in case the cintiq dies on me or I have to travel and draw at the same time. They’re reliable and easy to use, in my experience, so if you’re going to invest in a drawing tablet I would go for one of those, but again, what you use it up to you! I haven’t used all the tablets that are available these days so there may well be something better suited for you. I still sketch nearly everything I draw in pencil first and scan it in to finish off in photoshop, but everyone works differently. Just find what works for you buddy bro and don’t worry about what is conventional or popular u just do what u do

Anonymous asked: what types of flower are in the vase? I got the marigolds and foxgloves...

there are foxgloves, marigolds, oleander, basil and purple hyacinth flowers! sorry I am still pretty horrible at doing flowers but goshdarnit I’m trying
