“I am a big lover of Mexican folk art and the reason I love it is because it’s very accessible art. I consider it art by the people for the people, but it’s also is a mirror of who we are. […] I eventually came up with the idea of having some of the characters made out of wood because growing up I loved wooden toys, with all their flaws and imperfections. The film takes place post Mexican revolution, it was a hard time. The bad guys in the movie are made out of metal. The idea is that when they went to the army they put metal on themselves but never took it off, and they don’t have any guns because they’re the weapons themselves. In this world, when you’re born, the wood you’re made out of is really smooth and as you grow older the wood starts aging. Wood is life, and there’s also a tree of life that symbolizes it. The movie is dripping with symbolism and magic realism.” - Jorge Gutierrez

The Boxtrolls (2014) | Behind the Scenes

via Animation Magazine:

  • 1 week; the average amount of time for an animator to complete 3.7 seconds of footage
  • 3.5 inches, the cuff-to-cuff measurement of baby Eggs’ sweater (created on an embroidery machine to produce irregular lines, like a hand-knitted garment). His little socks are only ⅝” long
  • 4 scenes per week was the goal for each animator
  • 14 different fabrics were used in Lord Portley-Rind’s white hat
  • 24 kinds of weeds were created for backgrounds by the greens department
  • 55 different sculpts of prop cheeses were made; different scale sizes were needed for wide, medium and close shots

Disney has officially announced the pick up of Wander over Yonder Season 2 !!! The season was green lit back in February but we couldn’t talk about until they made the official announcement.
Now that they have, I can say that we have lots of exciting new things planned for this season! Lots of new characters, lots of new planets, and lots of new challenges for Wander, Sylvia, Hater, and Peepers to deal with including a new villain who rivals Hater’s position as the greatest in the galaxy!
We were picked up for 22 half hours, 4 of which will be full 22 minute episodes that form one long story arc. The other 36 cartoons will be traditional 11 minutes that stand alone but also loosely relate to the longer arc.
We’re really having great  time putting this season together, we’ve got some really funny episodes in the works and the dynamics between our main characters continues to evolve.
Wander Season 1 is going strong on Disney XD and we still have lots of more S.1 episodes slated to air throughout the year!
Thanks for watching, and if you love Wander as much as we do, please spread the word!

OKAY LISTEN UP UK, GERMANY, SPAIN, NORWAY, TO WHOM THIS MAY CONCERN. Httyd2 has not done as well as expected on opening weekend in America. This makes it our duty to make this film a massive smash HIT in our countries when it’s released. We need to knock it out the park. Dreamworks animation DEPENDS on us at this very moment. I don’t know about you but I sure as hell am NOT gonna let any kid grow up without this amazing company and exceptional original stories. BROTHERS, SISTERS, DRAGONS. STAND WITH ME AND MARCH FORTH INTO THE CINEMA. SPREAD THIS MESSAGE FAR AND WIDE. DREAMWORKS ANIMATION WILL NOT FALL. WE CAN STILL DO THIS.

THIS IS IMPORTANT.

DREAMWORKS NEEDS US.

SPREAD THIS LIKE A WILDFIRE

This movie is being held back until early July here in NZ in order to tie-in with the school holidays here.  Still, you can bet I will be in the theatre opening day to see it.  :( I am so bummed to hear it had an awful start over in the states (especially considering all the hype I’ve seen).

I am so confused as to how a film I’ve heard nothing but love for has done so badly

FELLOW EUROPEANS, HARKEN UNTO ME

IF WE CAN UNITE TO GET HYPE OVER EUROVISION WE CAN DO THE SAME FOR THIS MOVIE

WE MUST RISE

Long before Pixar and today’s CGI special effects extravaganzas, early animators of the silent era experimented and introduced new techniques into filmmaking. Mark Quigley gives us a tour of the silent animation collection at UCLA’s Film & Television Archive - one of the few places in the world that capture this rich history of early animation.
