Buddy I relate more than you know, I had some really bad advice during one of my education eras (especially in the last year of university- note, not VFS, which was the shit, treated me well and I loved it) and it took me a long while to even know that it was bad advice. It might not have been bad advice for someone else, is the weird thing, but it was for me and it did a lot of damage both to my art and my ego. All I can advise is to keep loving things- focus on what gives you joy, and while for most part the important thing is to absorb that energy, also try to analyse it and seek out what it is exactly that you find exciting about it. Try mashing it together with other things you like, try drawing while listening to the soundtrack of that one show you like, try writing a story in the same style- whatever it is, try emulating the experience of the thing. Copying is a way to start, but what you really need to do to kick yourself into gear is to generate new material- make it your own material, but let it be inspired by the things that inspire you. Don’t be afraid of allowing yourself to be influenced, or, indeed, carried by stuff that you enjoy- it’s the only way to keep yourself afloat sometimes.

ahaha omg I actually, uh, I don’t know?! I am real glad you like it, I think it’s mostly that I just, I dunno, I’m never 100% happy with the way I draw and I love the way other people draw, so I look at their work and try to suck out the parts I like and smash them together, and also I play? a lot. Playing a lot is really good for you man I can’t endorse the health benefits of Pure Mucking About and I guess really that’s what it boils down to. yeah.

(guess you mean TpatJ) yes! I am currently hoarding pencil sketches to do a big sweep of pages all at once because, well, that’s the best way for me to update it. I really am going to try and focus on TpatJ more this year so hopefully I can get it wrapped up and start on the other 10 billion stories jumping about in my brain (and get back to C.L.I.P. while I’m at it)
