Anonymous asked: I cannot believe. You made me love a duck. Goose. Whatever the heck Gladstone is. ;v; Just saw your comic and looked up a bunch of stuff and I never even liked the Ducks before this fml-

well that’s a victory if ever there was one, more love for ducks is only ever a good thing!

Anonymous asked: I'm debating whether to show Don Rosa your comic if I see him at SDCC this year but probably won't because I'm too shy and he's intimidating u.u

man what I’d give to just give the guy a hug, but you’re right I’d be too shy as well :’D really appreciate the sentiment though gosh it’s nowhere near the level of his stuff though I’d be way too cowed to show him

Anonymous asked: please say Frank Angones has read that comic

I’d like that but also would be shy but also feel bad about sabotaging all his efforts to make Gladstone into the A+ annoying rival that he is before the reboot’s even started

Anonymous asked: Mod!! You have no idea how happy it makes me to see a duck comic drawn by you! I had a terrible day until I saw this, thank you so much!! You continue to be an inspiration!

oh no, but I am glad if it helped put a stop to the terrible! remember; you can always defeat the terrible. with ducks.

…yeah.

Anonymous asked: Modmad, please help, I am now obsessed with Bendy and the Ink Machine an I am drawing Bendy wherever and whenever I can. what should I do

anon, buddy, pal, you’re asking the person who’s stuck drawing a comparatively obscure cartoon goose I’m really not the best source for sanity here

Anonymous asked: question- as a Danish reader I know the European version of Gladstone is generally a lot nicer than the original Barks/Rosa comics but still has his selfish/being an ass moments. Do you think you'd like Gladstone as much if he was a 100% good guy?

Ooh, nice question, and the answer is- no! Absolutely not. For a lot of reasons, but there is a narrative importance to Gladstone being a neutral force of self interest most of the time; because if he was always on the side of good, everything would be too easy! There would be no crisis, there would be no question as to what the outcome would be, because his good luck is so extraordinary. Instead of being deliciously frustrating his character would quickly become tiresome and a deadly plot killer.

Gladstone works because Gladstone lands outside of the circle of conventional good. Because you’re never sure whether he cares about what happens to anyone other than himself he is not only complex but compelling. When you see him get his just deserts in the form of a kick up the rear it’s fulfilling, because he deserves what’s coming and it contrasts with his constant good luck. Equally, when he does the morally right thing and goes out of his way to help other people it’s incredibly cathartic, goes against your pessimism, and you cheer for him! He makes you grit your teeth and dances on the borders of antagonism in many stories, but it’s the perfect use of a character with his traits and, while everyone likes a little redemption story now and again, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Anonymous asked: fun fact: only ur comics made me realize that gladstone is a goose not a duck. he's a duck in the polish version which i grew up with and which gave up on the alliteration in translating names. i may or may not be having a crisis but also a rising need of looking up duck comics in english

is he now? well fancy, I don’t know if it matters a great deal though (heck I mean he’s Donald’s cousin so it’d make more sense if he were a duck tbh)

Anonymous asked: ah, but the most important question regarding Gladstone; green, blue or red coat outfit? which do you like?

aw gosh that’s hard, I like all of them! I guess green is appropriate, being a lucky colour and all, but idk man I have a soft spot for the blue, and then again red is the colour it was in most of the old comics I read so… yeah, variety is the spice of life!
