Anonymous asked: not to rush you, just curious- is TPatJ over? or is there more to come?

more to come! and all being well I will probably(?) be able to update it tomorrow, finally, gad. Sorry about the delay as ever- however the update following the next(??? does that even make sense i don’t) will probably be a huge lumping one that will carry us right to the end officially SO. That’s rad.

Anonymous asked: pros of following your blog: great art! fun posts! leaves me in a good mood and appreciative of all walks of art style! cons of following your blog: i'm now in cartoon hell. i haven't watched a non-animated tv show in months. what have you done

I’m sorry that I’m not able to see that as a problem (although I did just watch the first episode of American Gods yesterday and wooo that sure did a good job of capturing the book, also have any of you watched Vera? The ITV show? She’s like, the best detective maybe try that out sometime if you can.)

Anonymous asked: Hi there! I love your art, and it makes me want to draw characters like Gladstone too! But every time I try, I can't come up with a nice, neutral pose (like where the heck should the arms go) and the drawing will end up really.. odd.. What would you do in such situations?

I don’t really know how to help, but I guess I always run through a sort of check list when I’m sketching characters that I learned in animation/storyboarding;

1) can you tell who the character is by their silhouette alone?

2) can you tell what the character is doing by their silhouette alone?

3) can you tell what the character is feeling by their silhouette alone?

This doesn’t apply to all pictures (you can have the feeling/motive of the character solely relying on the face, as with a close up, or a change of expression with two identical poses) but it’s a really good exercise to get your body language clear and keep the ‘acting’ of an image to the point. Try to keep limbs held away from the body so you can ‘read’ them, and remember you can use the hands in communicating emotion too.

Anonymous asked: how do you plan the length of your comics?

You mean page count I’m guessing? Well, a lot of the time I don’t, really, especially with doodle comics; I thumbnail focusing on the key events, join them up, and then see where I stand. Much of the time I end up shuffling things around to give the story enough ‘breathing space’ but try to edit out panels that double up or just feel like clutter. The exception to this would be TPoH, where I wanted every chapter to have the same number of pages (19), so I thumbnail those with that limit in mind, but again, I often end up shuffling panels about to let it have enough room. Cramming too many panels onto a page can make it difficult to fit the speech bubbles in, and sometimes an image just begs to have a whole page to itself. My job is to listen to the story and give it the best environment I can, and on the whole I put that priority above page count.

Anonymous asked: How do you think Jose and Panchito would react to Gladstone if Donald introduced them?

Ooh, fun idea! I’m guessing Donald would have told them about Gladstone and what A Pain he is and what with their close bro being so at odds with this dude they would mostly likely troll the living shit out of him.

Anonymous asked: Can I just tell you how much I love your art and how sweet a person you are? Your art is so relaxing to look at, and you're really good get feelings out. Recently I really enjoy your Gladestone and the triplets comic :) (I'm sorry for the bad English, but I really wanted to tell you how happy your comics make me and how sweet you are <3)

th-thank? you??? omg

Anonymous asked: new game: get Disney to notice Mod by convincing them there are bootleg comics

oh god no that sounds all too plausible

Anonymous asked: I showed that picture you did yesterday to my Swedish fine art lecturer this morning (if you did not know Sweden is the Land of Ducks seriously everybody reads those comics here) and the guy just sat staring at it with his hands on his cheeks like he could not actually believe what he was seeing, so yeah you broke my lecturer

omg

Anonymous asked: damn, I love how you made Lady Luck and Fortuna so stunning and yet didn't make them feel secondary- like, they're the power in that picture and Gladstone is totally in their hands. Also, did you make Lady Luck look like a bubble on purpose?

Shucks man, thanks! I am really glad if that communicated because that’s really what I was aiming for- and yes I did! I don’t know if it’s a regional thing or just my family but I’ve been brought up with the association that a long lasting bubble means good luck; because luck is as fragile and rare as one of those.

Anonymous asked: what is the cutest thing you've ever done in public 1 2 3 go

shit uh okay well this one time me and two of my friends were walking to town and I defaulted to walking behind them because that was what I was Trained To Do in school so as to not block hallways but they were like nope no we’re in a park c’mere so they both held hands with me either side so basically we walked around this whole park in a three-man chain occasionally skipping and no further mention of this was made by any one of us
