Anonymous asked: Can you explain the phrase "Ye cats and little kittens"? I've seen it in your duck comics before, but I don't think I know what it means...
it’s just one of the little cute expressions that scrooge/the ducks use in some of the comics! very often it’s just ‘ye cats’, but sometimes its the full phrase
it’s a bit like Tintin’s famous “Great Snakes!” exclamation of surprise- they don’t really mean anything specific, but they’re quaint and rather catchy. Two other famous phrases are ‘oh me, oh my!’ and ‘oh my stars and little comets!’, which are reused by the duck comics even now! it’s just a nice little nod to Scrooge’s origins and Carl Barks’ way of writing the character- like a verbal signature.
Anonymous asked: Hiya! I’ve recently started reading TPoH (its amazing omg I love it so much) and I was wondering if you have an update schedule? This isn’t trying to rush you of course!!! Ik these things take a long time, please take you time! But I just want to be ready for when the next update is up. If you don’t have a regular schedule that’s perfectly fine! I understand. Your art is totally amazing tho really, I love it. Thank you!
hi new reader friend! I update once a week on Sundays- sorry it’s slow, it’s just how I can keep making it regularly rn! but I am really glad you like it and I will try my best to improve :D
Anonymous asked: Sorry to ask at this hour but I'm watch Turner Classic Movies with my baby bro and this just came on and I have to make sure, was TPOH inspired by any form of the Phantom toll-booth? The word market in the movie reminds me of the market, and much of the geography and tone match, although that might also be a given of the story type, and altogether Milo and Tock remind me very much of Hero and RGB
see normally when your work gets a comparison to a thing you’ve never heard of before you feel jaded and start to resent it, but the Phantom Tollbooth is one of these magical things where someone made that link very early, I went and saw it and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I’d never heard of it before writing TPoH, and even after that I only saw the movie and then someone pointed out there was a book and I read it and IT WAS EVEN BETTER. So yeah! It wasn’t an influence when I came up with the story, but I guess it is now because it’s in my brain?
Anonymous asked: So I just had an idea. I used to raise ducklings and goslings as a kid and they always had these super cute biiiig puffy chests after a meal due to their crops being full (instead of their tummy being full like your would have with kittens and puppies). Would...would that be a thing with Disney ducks???????
AAA THAT’S CUTE AND MAYBE but my hands are too tired to draw it gnfks
Anonymous asked: I love that Gladstone's alarm goes off at freakin 10am lazy lucky son of a
duck, yes he is
also I actually debated making it noon bc I think he’s stated that he refuses to get out of bed before then in some comics?!??! but 10 looks better :’D
Anonymous asked: thanks for letting me stop watching Ducktales- I felt bad because I felt obliged to watch bc I've been a lifelong ducks fan, but I was forcing myself to, and then feeling bad that I wasn't enjoying it. I didn't realise how unhappy it was making me- the guilt of not being able to enjoy it, so when you just said 'you know what I'm good you all carry on I'm just not into it' it was like HUGE relief? and I feel so much healthier now! not bitter, not guilty, just able to let go of it and love ducks
I’m so glad I helped you get to that mindspace anon, it was a bit scary for me to make the decision and especially to make it public, but I really do feel much healthier without that constant internal conflict! I’m glad everyone is enjoying the new show, but I’m glad I don’t have to feel obliged to take part anymore as well- I think sometimes just admitting something isn’t for you and making a clean break can be the best for both parties.
Anonymous asked: Unlce Mod I'm so sad play desp- I mean, I had a dream where I was in a comic book store and I came across a bumper album of duck comics by you! And I asked the store owner and he said Disney got permission to print all of them from 'the artist' as long as they didn't change anything except line and colour and it was so GOOD and they were REAL and HARDBACK then I woke up and it WASN'T I'M SO ANGRY I'
Anonymous asked: can I just say, thanks for showing me the potential of Gladstone and Magica as a double act? determined vs lazy, serious vs fun-loving, unlucky vs lucky- Like, shipping aside, they work SO WELL as a combination! they balance out and just spontaneously create great situations as characters, I'm really surprised the official comics haven't latched onto it outside of the few stories there are with them both- I could easily see a whole series of magic adventures with them!
AAA THANK YOU see I am glad you put that out there because I’m so obviously biased with shipping them, but I really do think that they work together as friends and adventure buddies first and foremost! Magica doesn’t need anyone to help execute her plans, but I think it’d be healthier for her to have someone to help her be more easy going once in a while and give her some self care lessons- and Gladstone might not admit it often but he loves and needs adventure, and wouldn’t it be nice for them both to have someone who really understood/was interested in the occult to talk to? you’re not alone in envisioning a side series of adventures with them- it’s practically what I’m doing with these doodle comics! but hey, we can dream, right? anyway sorry for lack of posting art lately I’m real busy working on things, but here’s a sketch for a cover of a possible future story for your trouble <3
Anonymous asked: is there any chance you'll put up some of your duck doodles for print? I love them so much please uncle mod
sorry friend, don’t want to dice with death at the hands of Disney lawyers- I just want to make as many people smile as possible and create them for as long as I can
