I have headcanons for days about the Gander side of his family, which also feed into why he ended up being sent to his McDuck relative in Scotland rather than ending up with any of them after his parents passed. I won’t get into that too much (in case of future doodle comics) so let’s just say rather than making him feel excluded from the Duck family I imagine it makes him even more strongly defensive of his connection to them. Yes, he feels a bit out of place sometimes, (just as he does with any group- with his luck he’s always a fish out of water) but that insecurity means he needs and wants to be a part of the Duck clan even more badly!
I don’t think he’d feel bad or out of place about being part goose, especially with Gus being the same, I mostly mean the Gander connection is one he’s a little conflicted on. Despite that his surname is one of his remaining connections to his father, so I can’t imagine he’d change it. Basically being the stubborn and petty dude he is Gladstone never denies being a Gander, but identifies with and loves his Duck relatives much more than that part of his heritage, which is why he remains so loyal to them even if they have a lot of differences.

tbh I think Grandma is trying to get a nice photograph of her boys all together and Donald was just Refusing to sit anywhere close to Gladstone so Fethry came up with a solution and Gladstone immediately latched onto it (and Don)

oh gosh! that’s such a cute and moving description and I am really glad? you feel that way golly. it’s true I’ve found that I just can’t ship things where one of the two has to change things about themselves too much to ‘placate’ the other, and my absolute favourite ships are definitely ones with comedy as an outcome I mean wowie who wouldn’t want that! I love seeing people completing each other, or finding their own completeness because of how another person sees them, which helps them see themselves? idk. I’m glad you like my mushy stuff anyway and I hope I can keep drawing it for a long time to come :’D

I was amazed how many people freaked out at him :’D or maybe not, he’s precious. I headcanon that he’s the kinda guy who always has some beef jerky on him. The real good stuff. He doesn’t share unless you have a pet dog. The dog gets it, not you.

actually I really appreciate you asking this- because as much as I endorse and encourage writing fanfic (some of my best education in creative writing was via fics and especially multiverse RP writing, yeah in your face School), I actually don’t read it very much, or at all these days! it’s not that I dislike it, far from it: I just find I haven’t the time for it and I also don’t want to accidentally influence my ideas for the comics by absorbing things from other people too much, if that makes sense? probably doesn’t, but yeah alas I will ask please not to tag me for fanfic simply due to the fact that I don’t read it and I would feel bad for you to be waiting on my response to it :’D
