Everything I draw ends up wearing a bow-tie

Anonymous asked: I really love your duck comics and how you portray the characters! I never read the comics, so yours are some of my first real exposure to some of the characters, like Gladstone and Fethry, and I like how you write and draw them. But now I feel if I check out the comics I'll be disappointed how the characters I've come to love with your spin on them are portrayed in the published ones. You've done too good a job, haha! Your version of the ducks is my favorite!

What an awesome problem to have caused ahaha, but I promise the reason my version of the characters is that way is because I’m not trying to write them, I’m just trying to listen to them. I read these comics A LOT growing up, and even now! as many of them as possible! True, there’s always a bit of wriggle room between writers but on the whole the reason the duck comics and their characters have survived so long and been so beloved is because… they? Are real? These guys have been kicking around existing as fully fleshed characters for like 80 years now and they definitely have voices of their own. I’m always gratified to hear that people find my version pretty true to the original, so I think if you have a go at the real comics you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
