(read more for rambling) oh my, anon this means an awful lot to me-
not least because Barks’ version of Magica is absolutely what I look to! I look to him the most for all the characters, both in terms of personality and visual style (although mine is very far from it, his expressions and body form are what I always go back to for inspiration). I always adored how you could side with Magica; even though you wanted and needed Scrooge to come through at the end and were delighted when he did, you could just get a glimmer of understanding and even a strange hope that things might go well for Magica… but of course, they never do, and it’s best that way in terms of the fate of the dime and the story as a whole, but I always had empathy for this tattered, desperately creative and obsessed witch who could have done so much real harm with her powers but never did. Also I mean- just look at how cartoony and fun her expressions and behaviour is how could you not love this girl
sorceress can summon lightning and meteors but she quits making a noise bc of a little old lady I’ll freakin cry- and frankly, wanting to get that dime for cash money is no bad motive, and look at this sequence and tell me you don’t kind of want her to succeed even just a little;
she looks so distressed, she was so close! incidentally all these are from The Unsafe Safe ( the second story she appeared in I think?) if you want to read it- has unfortunate typical slightly-naive misrepresentation of native peoples but otherwise a cute and funny story :’D
