Can someone clarify what the rules are about putting fan art type things on RedBubble? I mean, I’ve seen a lot of people putting stuff like that up on there but I’m still hazy on what the rules are with copyright and such- I’d like to put some of my Osomatsu-san stuff up there but I want to be sure it’s okay! Can anyone help explain if/how that’s allowed?

  1. ruemilly answered: it’s one of those things that is illegal but everyone does anyway. it is frowned upon in all circles to do merch of indie creators/projects
  2. sigmabunny answered: I think it’s okay, provided it’s your own art and the creators are okay with people selling fanart
  3. bex-rambles answered: I think the general rule internet-wide is you’re good as long as it’s 100% your own work and until you get a cease and desist
  4. blacklimes answered: From what I understand, as long as it’s your own design it should be fine–For example, fan art of your favorite ghost busters character would be OK! but an official vector of the ghost busters logo with a little rust texture, would not be.
  5. thymbles answered: Long as it’s a big fandom, you’re fine! source: I follow a person who posts nothing but Transformers fanart pieces of her own on there and she’s a-okay!
  6. hinomial answered: Pretty much anything not done by an indie creator is considered acceptable. Anime and western cartoons are fine, big games like Pokemon too, while indie games and webcomics (Undertale, Homestuck, Cucumber Quest etc.) aren’t.
  7. wordgotaround answered: mmmh… I think that as long as it’s something made by you it should be fine. here’s a link to the help page, it’s just the first part, luckly there isn’t too much to read lmao tinyurl.com/zuuwzwl
  8. emissaryofwind answered: some authors do not want fanart of their thing to be sold, but that’s mostly for small-ish creators whose income rely on merch (homestuck, undertale). For anime, it’s pretty much tolerated.
