somewhat- when MGM fired her (yeah, that happened) Keaton was the one who fought her corner and encouraged Columbia Pictures to take her on because he saw her enormous potential in physical comedy. He also tutored her in how to improve her comic skills and oversaw a lot of her early work. Before this her roles had been mostly second-fiddle women in gangster flicks or ditzy showgirls, but she stuck at comedy and forged a solid place as a character and actress in her own right. Not to downplay her talents, but it’s fairly safe to say without Keaton’s help she would have had a much harder time surviving Hollywood to become the icon she is today, plus they were apparently both fantastic friends throughout so that’s neat :D

Also, yes, according to lore Keaton did teach her how to take a pie to the face.
