Anonymous asked: So I just had an idea. I used to raise ducklings and goslings as a kid and they always had these super cute biiiig puffy chests after a meal due to their crops being full (instead of their tummy being full like your would have with kittens and puppies). Would...would that be a thing with Disney ducks???????
AAA THAT’S CUTE AND MAYBE but my hands are too tired to draw it gnfks
well of all the things I thought I’d spend my afternoon off doing
something I get asked about with unnerving regularity is what I think ducks without clothes would look like- which is hilarious to me as they are? ducks? but it’s good learning and good practice for me to make these notes. All of this is just how I do things so don’t take it as law! Also I’m always trying to improve and I promise you in a month’s time I will be horrified at how off model these are. The first pictures are examples from Carl Barks and I basically choose that as my default as to how the Disney Ducks look/behave without clothes… which is not very differently at all! Also I love that Scrooge is just a cuddly soft duck look at him don’t you just want to hug that grouchy old bazillionaire gosh
Disney’s Comic Strip Artist’s Kit by Carson van Osten.
You might know these already, but it is such good stuff I don’t think anybody minds if I share it here again. These hand-outs were meant as a way to get beginning artists working on the Disney comics to overcome some recurring drawing problems.
I found this on Mark Kennedy’s awesome blog: Temple of the Seven Golden Camels. Hence the ‘To Mark’ dedication on the fist page which, I guess, features some pretty sound advice for any artist:
“Just keep drawing my friend… Draw like the wind!”
I love it when you can pick up an animator’s quirks.
I’ve read in old interviews with Milt Khal’s fellow animators that he did the swaggle to purposefully show off. Moving the head in 3-d space is an exceptionally hard thing to do but Khal upped the level of difficulty to a place many animators wouldn’t go. Not only are they all doing the swaggle you’ll notice they are all TALKING while they are doing it. This is back in the days where you had to use a timing sheet to pace your animation and a head swaggle doesn’t work if its too slow or too fast so he had to figure out the right speed so it looked natural while the character finishes what they have to say while not interfering with the distinct mouth shapes. Not only did Khal do it without any shifting weight problems or timing issues he would often do it while moving the rest of the body. This isn’t his signature move just because he was good at it.This is his signature move because he was one of the only people skilled enough to DO IT AT ALL.
I’m losing my mind I just saw panic in Pittsburgh and while they set up Africa by Toto came on and the entire crowd went wild and turned on their phone lights and sang and I was sitting next to a dad in his fifties and he was SO confused he said “this wasn’t even this big of a hit when it came out???”
If you like the idea of having more than one page of TPoH a week or just want to help keep a soul and body together, please consider supporting me on Patreon, even just one or two dollars a month helps!
There are also always lots of my doodles to buy on nice stuff on my RedBubbleaccount or in my Society6 merch box but RedBubble will be closed at the end of this week- so if there’s something specific you want from there, now’s the time! :D
