Hi, everyone. Earlier today the Nanaimo Daily News published this incredibly racist piece against the First Nations peoples. I’ve posted an image of the article in case it is taken down, but the original can be read here. This is disgusting. It is also not the first time this publication has posted something like this. They have a history of publishing racist pieces and comments against the First Nations peoples, a people who have a very long history and intricate culture in the area, and in Canada.

It makes me absolutely sick to know that people not only think these things, but feel justified in having these thoughts published. It’s even worse when a professional publication feels it appropriate to publish. It disgusts me to know how many people had to look at this and approve it before it went to print.

There has already been a huge outcry against the paper, and it appears that the Snuneymuxw Nation (the local nation) is taking legal action.

Unfortunately there is no petition, but if you would be so kind as to write (even a short) email to the managing editor calling for a front page retraction and apology, I’m sure that would be incredibly helpful.
